Mice are bad.
Well, mice aren't really that bad - but they've spawned bad user interface
design. My natural position for working with my PC is not with a hand on the
mouse, but with both my hands on the keyboard, allowing me to enter my
commands at the speed of light. Of course, there are times when this isn't
really practical - such as when trying to touch up images with a graphics
program.
However, it seems most programmers have forgotten this, and are now creating
dozens of applications without sensible keyboard bindings. Which makes me
use the mouse over and over again, dropping my productivity, etc.
On a side note - my personal opinion is that using your mouse too much will
cause RSI. I know several people who have been working in (RSI-technically)
bad positions for at least ten years. None of them have suffered from RSI
problems. The probable cause? All these people are addicts of the
commandline, and do not use their mouse when something can be done using the
keyboard. Compare that to the people I know who have suffered from RSI.
They were mouse-users.
